Description
Jaffa is one of the oldest Mediterranean port cities, with a history spanning thousands of years. Beneath its streets and alleys lie archaeological layers revealing ancient civilizations, trade routes, and cultural encounters. This walking tour uncovers Jaffa’s history through archaeology, art, and mythology.
The tour starts at the historic gateway between modern Tel Aviv and Old Jaffa. From here, you enter the ancient city shaped by Egyptians, Romans, Byzantines, Crusaders, and Ottomans. Walking through the winding alleys, you learn how archaeological discoveries continue to deepen our understanding of Jaffa.
A key stop is Kedumim Square, where excavations revealed ancient houses, streets, and artifacts illustrating daily life thousands of years ago. Many finds are preserved in the Jaffa Archaeological Museum.
The tour also covers archaeological discoveries made during modern construction, notably at the Setai Hotel site, where remnants from various historical periods were uncovered beneath a luxury complex.
