Description
The tour begins with a drive along the northern coast and through Israeli farmland to Magdala. Here, you can explore the archaeological remains of an ancient fishing village dating to the Biblical era, including a Second Temple period synagogue where a coin from 29 AD was found, suggesting Jesus may have preached there. Mary Magdalene is believed to have been born or raised in Magdala, as referenced in all four Gospels.
Next, the tour proceeds to Ginosar on the western shore of the Sea of Galilee. The Beit Yigal Allon Museum displays a 1st century fishing boat recovered from the Sea of Galilee, carbon dated between 100 BC and 70 AD. It is possible Jesus visited this area and interacted with local fishermen.
The journey continues north to the Mount of Beatitudes, overlooking the Sea of Galilee. This location corresponds to the Sermon on the Mount described in Matthew and Luke. The Catholic chapel on the summit, built in 1939 by Antonio Barluzzi, features elegant arches and a dome. The site has historic Christian significance dating back to the Byzantine era and hosted a Mass by Pope John Paul II in 2000 attended by 100,000 people.
The final stop is Kfar Kanna (Cana), known for Jesus’s first miracle at a wedding feast, where he turned water into wine. Visit the Wedding Church and its museum, which houses a 5th-6th century Byzantine mosaic and other archaeological finds.
The tour concludes with a return to your hotel in central Israel.
