Description

Departing from Tel Aviv mid-morning, we will travel northward along the coast as the Mediterranean Sea shimmers in the sunlight to the west. At Caesarea National Park, the ruins of an ancient Roman harbor city await you. Caesarea was one of the most significant Roman cities outside of Rome during the time of Herod the Great, with its remaining ruins displaying a Hippodrome, aqueduct, palaces, and houses. Following your perusal of Caesarea, we will travel to the Arab fishing village of Jisr az-Zarqa, situated on a beautiful northern coastal stretch. A local tour guide will take you around the town to reveal what authentic village life and culture entails in the village. The day continues at Kibbutz Ma’agan Michael where you will learn about the communal community from a local member. As one of the key segments of early Zionist communities in Israel, Kibbutzim are collective communities based upon a socialist philosophy, providing a lifetime membership for their residents. With a long history of involvement in the realization of the Zionist dream and the incorporation of socialist ideology into the Israeli mindset and government structure, they also play a vital role in Israel’s agriculture and manufacturing industries. Our first stop is a delicious buffet spread in the communal dining hall. Following lunch, you’ll experience firsthand the welcoming culture and history of the Kibbutz movement with an in-depth tour, including observing its extensive fish pools which provide a key source of income. As one of the last remaining truly communal kibbutzim in Israel, a tour of Kibbutz Ma’agan Michael is a fascinating and unique experience immersing you in one of history’s most influential community structures. Following the tour, we will depart for Tel Aviv, arriving back at Abraham Hostel Tel Aviv late afternoon.
